Tree Tanglefoot is a non-drying sticky compound that forms a barrier protecting your tree against climbing insects. It also protects trees without using any chemical insecticides. The best time to apply this product is in October and March. Over-wintering bugs lay their eggs in trees that hatch in spring and cause damage serious damage to trees leaving dormancy.

Pests like birch leafminer, winter moths, gypsy moths, ants, canker worms and other crawling insects will be stopped in their tracks with tree tanglefoot.

Proper application of this product is important for not causing damage to the tree. Fasten a 3 to 4 inch wide band of waterproof paper or similar wrapping material around trunk of tree. Make certain that all crevices beneath the band are blocked or the insects will walk under the product.

Apply non-drying Tanglefoot with a putty knife or disposable paddle over the wrapping material. Use mineral spirits to clean hands and tools after application. Leave the product on the tree for one month but no more than two. Trees breathe through their bark and should not be suffocated by the banding.

The lily beetles are hungry insects that can devour an entire lily plant and pose a real threat for gardens. Discovered only recently in Alberta, the red lily beetle is usually 6 – 9 mm long and feast on lily plants. Females will lay 200 – 400 eggs on the underside of lily leaves and the eggs will hatch in 7 – 10 days. It is important to check the leaves of lilies to discover any lily beetle eggs and remove them before they hatch.

If there is already an infestation on the plant there are a few methods to deal with the beetle.

PureSpray GREEN is a spray option that needs to be diluted with water then sprayed on the foliage of plants. It works by suffocating the insects on the plant and also changes the surface of the plant making it unfamiliar to the lily beetle. PureSpray GREEN can be used early in the season to prevent lily beetle infestations.

Doktor Doom Total Release Insect Fogger is made with natural pyrethrum which biologically breaks down in a couple of hours. Provides very fast re-entry times to fumigated areas and no long-lasting obnoxious odors lingering in the air. Safe to use around growing plants. To use, take a garbage can and cover the plant. Use the fogger and spray under the can and let the can rest while the beetles are suffocated.

Does not contain CFC’s or other ozone depleting substances. Best used 2-3 hours after HID lights are off or 2-3 hours after sunset — the greenhouse or indoor grow area cools down and bugs come out!

PureSpray GREEN™ is proven to effectively kill insects, insect eggs, and pathogens. Specifically working against powdery mildew, mites, scale whiteflies, leafhopper, and mealy bug to name a few. PureSpray GREEN uses a pharmaceutical/food grade oil, that successfully controls pests and diseases without harming the food chain.

It does in two ways:

  • It suffocates pests and pathogens. By covering them it blocks the air passages of insects, cuts off oxygen to pathogens, and prevents gas exchange from the egg membrane thereby smothering them.
  • Its second mode of action coats the plant and actually changes its surface chemistry so that insects and pathogens don’t recognize the surface and therefore don’t attach themselves to it.

PureSpray GREEN controls 2 to 3 unrelated pests simultaneously, and can effectively be used on its own. The product is compatible with virtually all water types and hardness, which allows growers everywhere to benefit from this unique spray oil. It can be used year-round right up to harvest time and is effective between 32°F and 95°F.
